The Evil Eye, also known as drishti in Tamil and Sanskrit, or nazar in Arabic and Hindi, is the concept that someone can cause harm upon you & your loved ones with a single glance of envious feelings. This shirt features seven protective talismans: the three eyes of Shiva, my grandfather's hands, incense, holy basil, a lemon-chili amulet, an oil lamp, and kohl.
The genesis of SAMAVAI was working with fabrics that belonged to my family members and using them for protection, and I want to continue on this concept as we expand into new products and keep the connective thread from our ancestors and culture to us.
